Canadian insurance companies announced record-high profits for 2004. Many reactions from bloggers and the Consumers’ Association of Canada.
And I thought that insurance existed to protect people... Isn't it time to abolish private insurance companies and replace them with coops? This year, that could be 140$ in profit returned to each canadian citizen. Why does the right never talk about this when saying they want more money in people's pockets?
I would frame things a little differently.
For example, why shouldn't groups of people with a common bond, you know, the stuff that credit unions are made out of, be able to much more easily form cooperative insurance companies? To answer this question in an affirmative, positive manner would require at the very least liberalization of the rules for obtaining a certificate of authorization for forming an insurance company. In the USA anyhow. I'm not familiar with how insurers are regulated in Canada, but in USAmerica the states regulate the insurance industry.

C'est exactement ce que nous devons faire. Mais au Canada, par exemple, certaines compagnies "mutuelles" ont été rachetées et privatisées dans les dernières années. Je me demande s'il existe de sites Internet qui abordent directement cette question.
