I wouldn't claim to know much about the Proutist philosophy at this point, but it does appear that an awful lot of cooperative activists that we all know of have participated in Proutist activities.
It is not uncommon for religious bodies to espouse a specific worldview and posit a certain ethical environment in which that worldview may be demonstrated. I myself was raised in a Christian tradition that aspires to build a cooperative commonwealth. Historically thousands of families have gathered to the Kansas City area with this objective in mind. Some people might believe that to be a strictly "secular" concern but I see it as an indication of Christian humanism based on an incarnational theology.

Par Pierre Ducasse le 2005-09-07 09:35PROUT stands for PROgressive UTilization theory. It means, progressive utilization and rational distribution of all the earth's natural resources. The prime way to implement PROUT on the ground is by establishing cooperatives. For this reason, WPA strives to work closely with the cooperatives movement and attempts to continually educate the public about cooperatives. PROUT says that NeoHumanism or Universalism is a key component. It is Humanism redefined for the 21st century. It means, seeing the Supreme Consciousness in every living entity. Hence PROUT advocates for the rights of animals and plants right alongside human beings.
