Worker recuperated enterprises in Argentina

Democratic Economics in Action:

"Argentina’s worker-run factories are setting an example for workers around the world that employees can run a business even better without a boss or owner. Some 180 recuperated enterprises up and running, providing jobs for more than 10,000 Argentine workers. The new phenomenon of employees taking over their workplace began in 2000 and heightened as Argentina faced its worst economic crisis ever in 2001. Nationwide, thousands of factories have closed and millions of jobs have been lost in recent years. Despite challenges, Argentina’s recuperated factory movement have created jobs, formed a broad network of mutual support among the worker-run workplaces and generated community projects."

Workers accross Latin America are questioning Capitalism in practice by building networks of autonomous self-managed workplaces. READ MORE ABOUT IT HERE.

Argentina’s case is very eloquent about how deep neo-liberalism economical ideas can go and how people reacted to the crash. A very clear political context is presented in the documentary “Social Genocide” (“Memoria de un saqueo” in Spanish).

If you guys don’t mind, I can publish in Spanish some of these notes about recuperated enterprises in Argentina. It’ll make it easier for our new ECODEMA´s Spanish speaker visitors from the South.

I'd very much like to see your notes.

In the article that Tom linked us to we are told that the ecuperated enterprises suffer from lack of financing in no small part due to their ambiguous legal standing. Who knows how long such ambiguity may continue to exist? Supposing that it continues to exist for sometime, just how would financial institutions and investment funds work with recuperated enterprises?

Obviously this is an opportunity for someone to do something extraordinary....namely to finance recuperating enterprises. One of these days maybe there will be a fleet of "ECODEMA Funds" to help fill in this gap and many others.
